Adelaide SQL Server User Group

Welcome

Welcome to the Adelaide PASS group - covering SQL Server and every aspect of the Microsoft Data Platform and Data Analytics space. You can find us on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at the Microsoft offices, Level 12, 147 Pirie St.

There's a link below to get on the mailing list.

We use EventBrite for meeting registrations - please look at adssug.eventbrite.com for a list of our meetings.

Previously, we used sqlserver.org.au, and you can see an archive of events on that site - but the Adelaide mailing list from there hasn't been used for some time.

Our next meeting is: Wed, Jan 18 2017 12:00 to 14:00 in Adelaide.

Table-splitting headaches
No matter whether you want to split tables vertically or horizontally, you can easily get a headache. In this session, Rob Farley explores reasons you might want to split tables, some of the performance pain you can suffer from, and some of the ways you can help mitigate it. Whether you’re thinking about partitioned tables or partitioned views, using a single filegroup or many, even using SQL DW versus SQL DB or SQL Server, this session may raise a few eyebrows.

Speaker: Rob Farley
Rob Farley runs LobsterPot Solutions. He is an MCM, MVP, MCT, PDW Trainer, and proud Arsenal supporter. He spends a lot of his time either tuning queries or helping people with their BI systems, from small in-house data warehouses to large PDW implementations. His presentation style and his insight into the complex made simple and profound make him unique in the SQL Server community, with or without his guitar. He blogs at http://sqlblog.com/blogs/rob_farley and is on Twitter at @rob_farley.

There is always stuff going on in the PASS community. For more information about these events, please contact the group leader, Rob Farley (try emailing through lobsterpot.com.au).
