Adelaide SQL Server User Group

Welcome

Welcome to the Adelaide PASS group - covering SQL Server and every aspect of the Microsoft Data Platform and Data Analytics space. You can find us on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at the Microsoft offices, Level 12, 147 Pirie St.

There's a link below to get on the mailing list. This is a mailchimp list, rather than the one that PASS handles.

We use EventBrite for meeting registrations - please look at adaug.eventbrite.com for a list of our meetings.

Many years ago, we used sqlserver.org.au, and you can see an archive of events on that site - but the Adelaide mailing list from there hasn't been used for some time.

Now, a quick word about privacy...

The details of event registrations are held with EventBrite, and I use that to update my EventBrite contacts, which is then used to update a mailchimp list for sending emails about the group. If you ever want to be removed from either my EventBrite contact list or the mailchimp list, please just let me know (rob at lobsterpot.com.au). I do this for you and will do my best to keep your privacy private.

Our next meeting is: Wed, Sep 18 2019 12:00 to 14:00 in Adelaide.

Introducing Big Data Clusters in SQL Server 2019
Big Data Clusters is the brand new feature in SQL Server 2019 that brings the best of open source together with everyone’s favorite database engine to create a focal point for analytics in your organization. By incorporating Apache Spark, Apache Hadoop and SQL Server in one Kubernetes powered deployment package Microsoft has brought together everything you need to successfully deploy, develop and manage your analytics solutions. In this session we will review the major components inside of Big Data Clusters, evaluate scenarios and highlight capabilities with a few demos. There will be time at the end of the session for questions so come and learn about the fundamentals of this exciting innovation.

Speaker: James Rowland-Jones
James Rowland-Jones (JRJ) is a Principal Program Manager at Microsoft. He is currently part of the SQL Server team working on SQL Server 2019 Big Data Clusters and data virtualization. Prior to joining SQL Server, JRJ worked extensively on Azure SQL Data Warehouse. He helped the team launch Gen 1 of the service and led the product management effort to bring Gen 2 into preview.
