Adelaide SQL Server User Group

Welcome

Welcome to the Adelaide PASS group - covering SQL Server and every aspect of the Microsoft Data Platform and Data Analytics space. You can find us on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, at the Microsoft offices, Level 12, 147 Pirie St.

There's a link below to get on the mailing list. This is a mailchimp list, rather than the one that PASS handles.

We use EventBrite for meeting registrations - please look at adssug.eventbrite.com for a list of our meetings.

Many years ago, we used sqlserver.org.au, and you can see an archive of events on that site - but the Adelaide mailing list from there hasn't been used for some time.

Now, a quick word about privacy...

The details of event registrations are held with EventBrite, and I use that to update my EventBrite contacts, which is then used to update a mailchimp list for sending emails about the group. If you ever want to be removed from either my EventBrite contact list or the mailchimp list, please just let me know (rob at lobsterpot.com.au). I do this for you and will do my best to keep your privacy private.

Our next event

Our next meeting will be on the third Wednesday of the month. We use EventBrite for registrations, so please register at http://adssug201805.eventbrite.com.

Our next meeting is: Wed, May 16 2018 12:00 to 14:00 in Adelaide.

Introducing the Common Data Service for Analytics
The Common Data Service for Analytics (CDS for Analytics) is a new capability coming in preview to Power BI this summer… um, this winter? Coming in preview to Power BI in Q3 of 2018. Yes, that should do. I honestly didn’t expect that to be so complicated. CDS for Analytics extends the capabilities of Power BI with out-of-the-box insights and integration with business applications through the Common Data Model. In this session, Power BI will introduce CDS for Analytics capabilities and architecture and demonstrate CDS for Analytics datapools in the Power BI portal and Power BI Desktop.

Speaker: Matthew Roche
Matthew Roche is a Senior Program Manager in Microsoft’s Cloud + Enterprise Group, where he focuses on business intelligence, enterprise information management, metadata, and data warehousing. Matthew is currently a member of the Power BI CAT team, where he was saddened to learn that there were not actually any cats. Previously he has worked on Azure Data Catalog, SQL Server Integration Services, Master Data Services, and Data Quality Services. Before joining Microsoft, he worked as an architect, consultant, and trainer focusing on ETL, data warehousing, and business intelligence. When he’s not enabling the world to get more value from its data, Matthew enjoys reading, baking, heavy metal, and competitive longsword combat.

There is always stuff going on in the PASS community. For more information about these events, please contact the group leader, Rob Farley (try emailing through lobsterpot.com.au).
